Cyclist Killed on Lake Hollingsworth Drive

ghostAccording to reports, this evening Byers Levy, 59, was struck and killed while riding on Lake Hollingsworth Road at Fairhaven Drive.

Lakeland Police say a white Toyota Camry driven by 74-year-old Ronald Akins was traveling northbound when witnesses say he lost control of his car and ran off the roadway. Akins reportedly veered back into the roadway, crossing into the opposite lane, but not before he struck Byers Levy with his front bumper.

Levy reportedly tried to evade the impact, but was unable to do so. He was ejected from the bicycle. — WTSP

How would you improve Lake Hollingsworth Drive?

We’re looking for more input. After the recent accident, the city is again looking into safety issues around Lake Hollingsworth. We’ve asked before, but we’re asking again, how would you improve traffic around Lake Hollingsworth?

All ideas are welcome, but be aware some probably wouldn’t be implemented. For example, no matter how much I ask, they’re no going to make it a bike only road.

What are your thoughts?
