BikeLakeland: a Lakeland Florida citizen initiative

Vision: Establish Lakeland as Florida’s foremost bike friendly community

Mission: Bringing together Lakeland bicyclists, business people, city employees and concerned residents to promote awareness and effect positive change for bicycle riders in the community.

We’re looking for everyone in the metro Lakeland area who commutes to work or occasionally rides their bicycle for fun.

BikeLakeland is your advocacy group.

What are our accomplishments to date?

Downtown Lakeland lacked bike parking. We worked together with the city to fix the problem. Now there are racks in the parking garages and in Munn Park. We even raised money to place a few on downtown street corners.

The League of American Bicyclists noted that bicycle commuting grows considerably faster in “bicycle friendly communities.” This Spring, BikeLakeland asked the city to gather all their evidence that Lakeland was already bicycle friendly. We worked with city officials on the application and we’re very proud Lakeland was named a Bronze Level Bicycle Friendly Community.

We won’t stop now. We’ll work with city officials, local businesses, community influencers and all Lakelanders to maintain and grow the bicycle friendly aspects of our community. Whether a bike is your way to work, tool to exercise or method to relax, BikeLakeland is working with you to improve and expand Lakeland’s bike lanes and trails.

You can help by volunteering your time, making a tax-deductible donation, or by spreading the word about BikeLakeland.

Let’s go!

As a avid bicyclist and small business owner located in downtown Lakeland, I think it’s about time we become bike friendly. Great job keep this going.
